About Me

Andi Grushka

MSS, LCSW‑C, AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, Certified Sexologist, American Board of Sexology

I work specifically with adults struggling with sex-related issues. These include, but are not limited to: intimacy issues in relationships; lack of sexual education in young adulthood; infidelity; sexual dysfunction; couples in ethical non-monogamous relationships looking for guidance with communication or other relationships; and individuals who are in the kink, BDSM, or sex-work communities and would like informed therapeutic care.

My Therapeutic Framework

In my practice, I use a relationally focused psychodynamic framework. While I do work within a trauma-informed lens that recognizes the impact of trauma on our functioning and spirit, I do not work in trauma-related recovery interventions, such as EMDR or any exposure therapies, but I do work with an amazing team of clinicians who I refer to for trauma work, and clients can begin the process of therapy with me. As a social worker, my approach to therapy is informed by the client’s needs, meeting the client where they are in their process with therapy, and encouraging clients to share and build rapport at their own pace. I use a holistic approach to provide a non-judgmental space to discuss family dynamics, work stress, sexual health, and major life events. I encourage a sex-positive and LBGTQ+ safe space in all communications, and I am sex work affirmative.

Out-Patient & In-Patient Experience

In addition to out-patient treatment, I have worked in in-patient hospitals with patients with severe mood disorders in addition to co-occurring substance treatment facilities. I currently support clients in abstinence, 12-step programs, Smart Recovery, and harm-reduction models.

We may discuss cognitive behavioral or dialectical behavioral techniques, and mindfulness techniques to achieve goals.

How Therapy Can Help

Some things that therapy can help with are: Dealing with stress in a productive way. Coping with loss, grief, and amotivation. Those experiencing long-term illness and those taking care of loved ones with illnesses. Spiritual issues. Relationship issues with work, family, or friends, and thoughtfully setting boundaries.
