FAQ

How often should I schedule therapy sessions?

There is no set rule about how often to come to therapy, as the benefits of therapy affect us all differently. When starting treatment at Gold Pomegranate, it is recommended that sessions start weekly in order to build a rapport and co-create a treatment plan. Then session frequency can be reduced as needed.

How long does treatment last?

Depending on why you are seeking treatment,  therapy can last as long as you are receiving benefits from the process. Some diagnoses have specific timelines for treatment, but these terms are always discussed in our initial consultation and confirmed in our first session.

How do I know if my therapist is the right fit for me?

Starting therapy can make some people feel nervous, which is a normal reaction to a new situation. However, if after a few sessions with your new therapist, if you still do not feel like you can begin to talk openly, you should talk to your therapist to see if there is a solvable solution. Maybe they said something you need clarification on, or you think they responded to you in a negative way. This initial point of tension can often bring about an opportunity to understand where your therapist was coming from, or you may feel comforted by their response to you. Asking them can also bring a conclusion to your therapeutic relationship if you both decide that you are not a good fit.

How do I talk about things I am uncomfortable about with a therapist?

Every session is structured for you to be able to talk at your own pace about what is most important to you. As you and your therapist build a rapport you will begin to feel more comfortable with disclosing important information and discussing emotions. This process can take as long as you need to feel comfortable.

But, how do I talk about sex with someone I don’t know?

Talking about sex, intimacy issues, and out of control sexual behavior can be intimidating for so many people. I am a sex work, kink, BDSM, and polyamorous informed clinician. I am trained in working with sexual issues, and have worked with a vast amount of people experiencing unique and common sexual dysfunctions. I work hard to provide an informed and non-judgmental space for clients.

How do I become reimbursed from my insurance company?

After payment for your session is received, you will be mailed a “Superbill” to submit to your insurance company. Depending on your plan you will be either partially or fully reimbursed for your session, or your payment will contribute to your deductible.

Can couples therapy be reimbursed?

Most insurance companies do not reimburse for couples therapy. However, if you are living with partners in a polyamorous relationship, some insurance companies have reimbursed for family therapy when three or more people are involved in the session. Ask your insurance provider for stipulations on their reimbursement policies.
